Vellum

Vellum, which is ethically produced from calfskin, has been used as a precious, archival writing/painting surface since the 5th century BC. It is extremely smooth and has a translucency that makes the paint sit on top of the surface (rather than being absorbed, as with paper), allowing very sharp edges to painted details, resulting in an overall luminous, glowing quality.
